Electronic Letters of Evaluation
Electronic Letters of Evaluation (E-LOR)
The deadline to submit to VMCAS your three Electronic Letters of Evaluation is October 1.
Applicants to Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine are required to submit only three electronic letters of evaluation. One of these letters must be from a veterinarian for whom you have worked either as a volunteer or for pay. Letters of evaluation submitted by the applicant's family members will not be accepted, nor will MSU CVM accept letters of evaluation written by a committee.
The website to download the electronic letters of evaluation form is

Yes, it is true that the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine only accepts electronic letters of evaluation. We receive approximately 3,500 letters of evaluation each year, some 10,000-plus pages. Our team has decided to take full advantage of our resources and to begin moving to a paperless office. In addition to the obvious environmental benefits, a paperless admissions process allows us to serve our applicants more quickly and efficiently.
It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all letters of evaluation are submitted to VMCAS properly and on time. If evaluators’ names have changed from those you indicated on your VMCAS application, please notify the Office of Admissions as soon as possible before the October 1 deadline; failure to do so will result in withdrawal of your application. Candidates should give evaluators at least a four-week notice. Be sure to follow up with each evaluator to confirm that letters of evaluation have been submitted on time. You must confirm with each evaluator that he or she has access to the Internet. If letters of evaluation are not received by VMCAS by the deadline, the candidate's application will be withdrawn from the process.
You and your evaluators will find using electronic letters of evaluation more efficient and easy to complete. When you enter your evaluators’ names, VMCAS will send them an e-mail with a link to a confidential website for them to visit. There, they will be able to complete the quick and easy form. There is additional space provided for them to compose personalized comments or copy and paste in a previously composed letter of evaluation. Please be aware that there is a limit to the length of these comments.
Keep in mind that a small number of veterinary medical colleges require more than three letters of evaluation. Since VMCAS limits electronic evaluations to three per applicant, it is important that each applicant choose very carefully which evaluators will be asked to submit their evaluations electronically. Since MSU CVM will only consider electronic evaluations, you must make certain that the evaluations you would like to review are those that are electronically submitted.
If your evaluator does not have an e-mail address, there are many ways to address this challenge. E-mail accounts are free through many services such as hotmail, Yahoo, and gmail. For more information on free e-mail providers, check out this website called Free E-mail Providers Guide. It includes a listing of hundreds of free e-mail providers.
Additionally, Internet access is free at virtually every public library in the country, and other services such as netzero.com offer extremely low-cost dial-up Internet access. There is more information on getting free or low-cost access to the Internet at the aforementioned website or several others:

You may need to assist your evaluator in locating and accessing these services.
