GRE and TOEFL
GRE and TOEFL (the latter is for International students only)
Applicants must submit scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) to the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). The test must have been taken within the last five years.
Deadline: GRE and TOEFL must be taken by October 1.
When the test has been taken more than once, only the higher composite score will be added to the applicant's credentials.
- The GRE General Test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing skills that have been acquired through a long period of time and are not related to any specific field of study.
- The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for applicants whose native language is not English. International applicnats with a completed degree in a U.S. accredited institution are not required to complete the TOEFL.
It is important to understand the role of the standardized examination in the admission process. The GRE score makes up 21 percent of the Scholastic Indicator Score in Step I of the process. Competitive applicants take the examination very seriously. It is important to prepare for the exam well in advance of your scheduled sitting. Make sure to register for and take the exam before the application deadline. A strong GRE can help out if your various grade point averages are below the typical MSU CVM selected applicant; however, a low GRE score can make good grade point averages less competitive. For more information, visit this site web: http://www.gre.org/edindex.html
NOTE: The GRE is the only standardized test required for applicants to the four-year professional program. ALL GRE SCORES MUST BE SENT TO:
College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). Please see specific code below for scores to be submitted directly to CVM. DO NOT SEND YOUR SCORES TO MSU.
MCAT scores arenot required for the MSU CVM admissions process.
