Requirements to Apply to CVM through Production Medicine Scholars Pathway

1.  Complete at least 27 credits of required preveterinary science courses (see information on courses for Animal Science Production Medicine Pathway students).

2.  At the time of application, MSU CVM requires that applicants provide evidence of both animal and veterinary exposure sufficient to demonstrate motivation, interest, and understanding of the veterinary profession. This exposure may include the care, knowledge, and exposure gained working in a veterinary, agricultural, research, human health, biomedical setting, or zoological setting, or with wildlife. This experience should be of appropriate breadth and depth. The quality of this exposure is evaluated on the basis of the applicant's description and by the letters of evaluation. Nationally, of the veterinary schools that require veterinary-related exposure, the minimum number of hours is approximately 80 and the maximum approximately 500.

At MSU CVM, there is no fixed number of hours required. The exposures that you described must demonstrate quality, motivation, interest, and understanding of the veteirnary profession.

3.  Three electronic confidential evaluations are required.  One letter must be from a faculty mentor in animal science. One letter of evaluation must be from a food animal veterinarian with whom the student has worked and the third letter must be from a CVM Preveterinary Advisor.

4.  Completion of the MCAT or GRE examination by the specified deadline.

5.  A strong commitment to livestock agriculture.  This can be demonstrated with youth activities, family experiences, employment, extracurricular activities, or other forms of service or activities within the livestock industry.

6.  Students selected for the CVM professional program through the Production Medicine Scholars pathway will have a Scholastic Indicator Score (SIS) within the range of the SIS in the class admitted in previous years.  For details about components used in the evaluation of SIS, refer to < http://cvm.msu.edu/admis/admissions/selection_process.htm>

The subcommittee on Production Medicine Scholars after evaluations, review of files, and interviews will submit the names of up to ten qualified applicants to the Committee on Student Admissions for recommendation to start the program two years from the time the acceptance is provided.
