Determine your area of interest.
Contact appropriate faculty members in your area of
interest to see if they have an opening in their research group. Correspond
with faculty members who have openings. They may wish to see unofficial
supporting documents (transcripts, GRE, etc.).
Once a faculty member has conveyed interest in your
joining their research group and has encouraged you to apply, you can
obtain an application through the MSU graduate school via the web (http://www.msu.edu/user/gradschl/)
or by contacting Faith Peterson at petersof@cvm.msu.edu.
Fill out the online application and remit the fee to
the University.
Send the statement of purpose to the Postgraduate Training
Committee (address below).
Contact all colleges/universities previously attended
and ask that one official transcript be sent to the Postgraduate Training
Committee (address below).
Contact testing services for GRE and TOEFL (if an international
student) and have them send official scores to the University Office
of Admissions. You may have already completed this step when you took
the exam. The department does not require GRE scores but encourages
students to take the exam and submit the results.
Ask three people to write letters of recommendation
and have them sent to:
Postgraduate Training Committee
c/o Faith Peterson
Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences
D202 Veterinary Medical Center
Michigan State University
East Lansing MI 48824-1314
USA
After the Postgraduate Training Committee has received
your application and all supporting documents, the application packet
will be reviewed. The committee will decide if the applicant is admissible.
Note: Only students with arrangements to work with a
specific faculty member will be admitted. Applications received without
this arrangement will be made available to all faculty for consideration,
however, students applying this way are rarely admitted.
Deadline
Application materials should be at the University Office of Admissions
three months before the beginning of the semester to which you are applying.
